Hi everyone, I'm Ethan, head of technical support at Opentrons, and this is the 3rd video in our series of videos on how to get from unboxing to protocol running, so let's get started setting up the application and connecting to the OT-2. I've unboxed and unlocked the OT-2, all I need now is a computer, the USB to Ethernet adapter in the Ethernet cable, and the power cord wrapped in the big foam shell and accessory box, let's get started downloading the app program, you can find Opentrons on the Opentrons official website of apps, I'll scroll down to where it says Download apps, I'll download the OS-specific app to my computer and then follow the on-screen instructions to install the app, and once the app is installed, I can Open it.

When I first open the app, I'm taken to the Protocols tab, which shows all the protocols I've uploaded, which I don't have here because I just installed the app, and also shows our standard lab The Labware tab for Instruments, as well as any custom labware I upload. Finally there is a device page showing all the Opentrons devices I have access to, now let's connect to the OT-2, first I need to make sure the OT-2 is plugged in and has a solid blue light showing on the front of the machine. Many customers often ask me, what is the function of the buttons on the front of the machine? This indicator light is used to check whether the OT-2 is started correctly.

First, I needed to make sure the OT-2 was plugged in and had a solid blue light on the front of the machine, I needed an Ethernet cable for power, an Ethernet to USB adapter, and an IEC cable. First I plug the IC cable into the socket, next I plug the TC cable into the power adapter, then I will make sure the power is plugged into the OT-2, the most important thing when plugging the power into the OT-2, and for other Opentrons devices, is Always make sure the plug is oriented correctly, if inserted incorrectly you may short out the OT-2. Now we will wait for the OT-2 to start.

Great! The light on the front of the OT-2 comes on so I can now connect the OT-2 to my computer via an ethernet cable. The OT-2 has an ethernet port on the side just above the power port. I will One plugs in the ethernet cable, then unplugs it and connects it to my computer, my computer doesn't have an ethernet port so I need the provided ethernet to USB connector. Now that I have it plugged in, let's go back to the application interface and I'm going to navigate to the devices tab, which is right here, and the OT-2 will display the serial number and you can also find the OT-2 on the label on the side of the machine. 2 serial number. Since my OT-2 is brand new, there is a red prompt telling me that the robot software needs to be updated before running the protocol. I will quickly figure this out. I will check for updates and update the robot. It will take a few minutes for the robot to update. In five minutes, when the OT-2 has finished updating, I want to show you something cool. You can light up the light strip and see the new and beautiful OT-2. That concludes this video on setting up the Opentrons application and connecting to the 0T-2.
