Adapter Magnet If the GEN2 magnetic module is too weak for your application, you can use this method to strengthen its magnetism to improve bead granulation.
What is an adapter magnet? Adapter magnets are 24 K&J Magnetics BX041 attachments placed onto a GEN2 magnetic module. The adapter magnet originally shipped as a separate item and now ships with the GEN2 magnetic module.
Why do we offer these magnets? These adapters provide additional strength to the magnets already on the GEN2 Magnetic Module. Based on internal testing, our scientific team observed that by adding adapter magnets, the time required for beads to settle and settle was reduced by 20%.
We recommend adding additional magnets if all of the following conditions are met:
GEN2 magnetic module is in use
Use pyramid V-bottom deep well plates or PCR full skirt plates
The joint height is set appropriately
Significant loss of magnetic beads after incubation with GEN2 Magnetic Module for more than 10 minutes
How to connect the adapter magnet to the GEN2 magnetic module
Make sure you have 24 K&J Magnetics BX041
Manually place the magnets so that there is 1 magnet on each side of the existing magnets, for a total of 4 magnets per column
When finished, you should have a total of 24 magnets connected - 4 magnets per column, 6 columns total
Place the magnetic module with the extra magnets into the OT-2 deck slot and use it as normal. Joint height, protocol and labware should be the same
