  • What is the difference between a ring magnetic stand and a magnetic module?

    The ring magnetic stand is suitable for Opentrons Flex and the magnetic module is suitable for OT-2. The ring-shaped magnetic stand does not have a power supply, does not contain any electronic components, and cannot move the magnetic beads up and down independently. Use the Opentrons Flex Plate Gripper to clamp and remove labware from the ring magnetic rack while performing protocols.

    The Magnetic Block is a plate-sized magnet that relies on the Opentrons Flex Gripper GEN1 to move your plates on and off the block. Conversely, the Magnetic Module is a powered unit that turns the magnets on and off, and is intended for use with a liquid handling robot without a gripper.

  • Are deep well plates compatible with ring magnetic stands?

    Yes. Labware compatible with the Ring Magnet Rack include: Opentrons 0.2 mL PCR Rigid Plate (fully skirted) and NEST 2 mL 96 Deep Well Plate.
