Basic principles of the 96-channel pipette 1. Principle of piston movement The pipette is equipped with a precise piston mechanism, which controls the up and down movement of the piston to achieve liquid suction and discharge. When the piston moves downward, a negative pressure is formed in the suction head, thereby sucking the liquid; when the piston moves upward, the liquid is pushed out. This principle of piston motion is the basis for pipettes to achieve precise transfer of liquids. 2. Principle of air displacement In air displacement pipettes, the movement of the piston will change the air pressure in the tip. When the piston is pressed down, part of the air in the suction head will be discharged, forming a negative pressure; when the piston moves upward, the external air pressure is higher than the air pressure in the suction head, thereby sucking the liquid into the suction head. This principle of liquid transfer by changing air pressure allows the pipette to precisely control the volume and transfer process of liquid. 3. Multi-channel parallel processing The key to the 96-channel pipette's ability to achieve high-throughput operations lies in its multi-channel design. Each channel is equipped with an independent piston and suction head, which can independently absorb and discharge liquids. This parallel processing method greatly improves experimental efficiency, allowing multiple samples to be processed in one operation. 4. Precise control In order to achieve high-precision liquid transfer, 96-channel pipettes are usually equipped with precise control systems and sensors. Aspiration stage: (1) When the operator presses the control button, the piston of the pipette begins to move downward, forming a negative pressure in the suction head by discharging part of the air. (2) Under the action of negative pressure, the liquid is sucked into the tip until it reaches the preset volume. 3. Pipetting stage: (1) The piston stops moving downward and remains stable. At this time, the tip is filled with the required volume of liquid. (2) The operator moves the suction head over the target container and presses the discharge button. (3) The piston begins to move upward, pushing the liquid in the tip to be discharged into the target container. 4. Repeated operations: (1) Since the 96-channel pipette has 96 independent channels, 96 samples can be operated at the same time.
