Watch VideoNGS library preparation is one of the most common automated applications for the OT-2 automated pipetting platform. It automates not only NGS library preparation, but also other steps of the pre-sequencing workflow, including reagent dispensing, bead cleanup, sample concentration normalization, and pooling. You can use your own protocol, or choose from our online protocol library a protocol that has been validated by the Opentrons scientific team in similar applications or a protocol provided by a major reagent brand currently on the market.

Opentrons software is open source and users can adapt the software as needed to interface with other products. While all integrations are possible, they all require custom code work, i.e. most customers will need to write custom libraries and install packages that don't come with the robot.

Opentrons guarantees the performance of Opentrons tips designed specifically for the OT-2. The OT-2 is designed to accommodate all universal hole tip types, but tip quality and size can vary widely, so Opentrons cannot guarantee third-party tip performance.
Use common labware already in our labware library, or add your own. If you have labware that is suitable for the OT-2 but is not in the Labware Library, you can add it using our Labware Creator or our team.

What kind of labware is the OT-2 compatible with?
Out of the box, the OT-2 can support any automation-compatible, ANSI/SLAS-compliant orifice plate, as well as a wide variety of EP tubes and screw-cap centrifuge tubes, including centrifuge tubes with volumes up to 50 mL. You can view all supported labware in our labware library.
Do I need to know programming knowledge to use OT-2?
No programming knowledge is required to use the Opentrons platform. You can use Opentrons' concise and easy to understand protocol design tools to create protocols. In addition, our application engineering technology team can also Create a custom agreement for you.
What does the OT-2 protocol look like?
You can find our community's OT-2 protocol set in our protocol library. You can search to find protocols that match your laboratory workflow! If you cannot find a protocol that matches your laboratory process, we offer several different methods to create your protocol. In addition, you can also contact us to have our engineering team develop custom protocols for you.
Can the OT-2 be integrated with third-party lab equipment?
Due to the open-source advantage of OT-2, many users have successfully integrated OT-2 with Third-party laboratory equipment.
What certifications does the OT-2 have?
OT-2 has the following certifications: CE, FCC, NRTL, ISO 9001, CB. Please note that this OT-2 is not IVD or GMP certified/validated.
Can OT-2 be used in a biological safety cabinet?
Labs within the Opentrons community have installed OT-2 automated pipetting platforms in biosafety cabinets, including Labconco’s Logic Vue Class II closure device and Baker’s AeroPROTECT 360 closure device. We recommend that you evaluate the size of the OT-2 by comparing it with the size of the biological safety cabinet you choose.
